Constance Baker Motley

1921 – 2005

Drafted the original complaint in Brown v. Board. First Black woman to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court — winning nine of ten cases. Lead counsel in Meredith v. Fair, integrating Ole Miss. First Black woman in the New York State Senate, first Black woman Manhattan Borough President, and first Black woman appointed to the federal bench.
