1. Who we are

This website is operated by Black-History.com Media, LLC, a limited liability company. Educational programs, including free classroom resources, are operated by the Black History Educational Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity. For privacy purposes, both entities are referred to as "we," "us," or "Black-History.com" in this policy.

2. Information we collect

Email address. We collect your email address if you subscribe to any of our newsletters or create an account. We use it to send you the newsletters you subscribed to and, if you are a paid subscriber, to manage your account.

Donation information. If you make a donation, we collect your name and email address for tax receipt purposes. Payment processing is handled by Stripe; we do not receive or store your full credit card number.

Analytics data. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how our content is used. This data is aggregated and does not identify individual users. We do not use cookies for tracking purposes. We do not use Google Analytics.

Contact form submissions. If you submit a contact form, we receive the information you include in the form. We use it to respond to your inquiry and for no other purpose.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• → Send you newsletters you have subscribed to
• → Process and acknowledge donations and provide tax receipts
• → Respond to inquiries submitted through contact forms
• → Improve our content and site based on aggregate analytics

We do not use your information for advertising purposes. We do not use your information to build a behavioral profile of you as an individual.

4. Information we do not share

We do not sell your personal information to any third party.

We do not share your email address with any third party for marketing purposes.

We may share information with service providers who help us operate the site (email delivery platforms, payment processors, hosting providers). These providers are contractually required to use your information only to provide the services we have contracted with them for, and may not use it for their own purposes.

5. Your rights

You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate information, and to request deletion of your information. You may exercise these rights by contacting us at privacy@black-history.com.

If you are a subscriber, you may unsubscribe from any newsletter at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send you.

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including the right to know, the right to delete, the right to opt-out of sale, and the right to non-discrimination. We do not sell personal information, so no opt-out of sale is required. To exercise other rights, contact us at the address above.

6. Data retention

We retain subscriber email addresses until you unsubscribe or request deletion. We retain donation records for seven years as required for tax and accounting purposes. Contact form submissions are retained for 12 months and then deleted.

7. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify subscribers via email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes.
