A. Philip Randolph

1889 – 1979

Founded the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters in 1925, the first successful African American-led labor union. His 1941 March on Washington Movement forced Executive Order 8802 desegregating defense industries. Architect of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
