Woolworth Lunch Counter
Where four freshmen from North Carolina A&T — Ezell Blair Jr., Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil, and David Richmond — sat down at the segregated lunch counter on February 1, 1960, and refused to leave. The sit-in continued for nearly six months and inspired sit-ins in 55 cities across 13 states within two months. Greensboro's downtown lunch counters were desegregated on July 25, 1960. The original lunch counter is preserved at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum on the site.
