Ralph Abernathy was arrested at least nineteen times alongside Dr. King. As co-founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and Dr. King’s closest confidant, Abernathy led the Poor People’s Campaign after King’s assassination and occupied the Poor People’s encampment, Resurrection City, until he was himself arrested in June 1968.
