Diane Nash chose jail over bail in Rock Hill — a tactic that forced the movement into public view. As a founding member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and architect of the Freedom Rides, Nash was among the most strategically brilliant organizers of the civil rights era. She organized while pregnant, refusing to abandon the movement.
